Help Sustain Flicker

Your donations help support the success of Flicker and keep it going year after

It really does take a village to create an event like Flicker. Building this event from scratch on off-grid land with no existing infrastructure is a labor of love and has already required huge investments of time, labor, and money from the organizers and land-owners.

Our aim is to keep Flicker small and intimate and be true to the original inspiration of keeping reciprocal relationship with a living wild place at the heart of how we organize and grow the event. This necessarily limits ticket sales. Even with a conservative budget and selling every ticket, it is unlikely Flicker will pay for itself or leave surplus in the account to pay the organizers for their time.

Contributions from generous donors who believe in what we are doing will make a huge difference in the viability, and thus long-term sustainability, of the Flicker vision.

We are currently working on partnering with a local 501 (c) (3) nonprofit to be able to make your donations to Flicker tax-deductible. More information about that will be posted here as it becomes available.

At the present moment, we are happy to accept donations of all kinds and can accept Venmo, Paypal, card or check.

Make an Impact Today

Flicker is not your average skills gathering. It takes place in a beautiful wild place in the heart of California's Gold country.  This landscape was ravage by human greed and extractive mining practices in the 1800's.

Ecological restoration and reciprocal relationship with the land is at the heart of all we do at Timeless Ways and Flicker, and that means operating in a different and less convenient way than most events.

We are actively working to restore our meadow and our creek, doing earthworks to rewild a landscape shaped by harmful mining practices. Doing  erosion control projects, conscientious forest thinning, planting native plants and removing invasive ones, and much more.

Minimizing driving through the meadow is part of this, so students are encouraged to have us drive their gear in, and to hike our scenic trails (less than a mile) to the event site.

All donations will go to supporting our restoration efforts and helping us create thoughtful infrastructure in keeping with the "Timeless Ways" of engaging with the natural world.

We have an intention of eventually creating our own nonprofit towards these ends, but the scope of Is beyond our ability at the present time so we are working to partner with a nonprofit as a fiscal sponsor to be able to Make your donations to our project tax deductible. We will post more here about that when we know more.

All donations of every size are welcome and appreciated, but here are some suggestions illustrating our needs and what your generous donations can help us achieve.

$100 donation will help us build our dishwashing stations and handwashing stations for the bathrooms. Good hygiene is important for events like this!

$500 donation will enable us to build a portable, composting toilet outhouse. We will need at least four of them for an event the size of Flicker

$2000 donation will help us hire a local builder to construct a beautiful outdoor kitchen structure rather than needing a plastic carport to house our kitchen

$5000 donation will allow us to bring a mobile sawmill to the land so that we can build our outdoor kitchen and composting station out of lumber mill from trees on the land

• $10,000 donation will enable us to purchase a 52 foot Sky Lodge canvas with a hole for a central fire in the middle. Such a structure well allow Flicker students a dry place to gather and share meals if we have a wet week for the event, or a shady place to retreat you if we have more sun than we'd like

$15000 or more donation will help us purchase a small tractor to bring students gear to the meadow, to ferry students who aren't able to hike in to the gathering site, and to run supplies such as ice, meat, and fresh vegetable into the kitchen.

Honestly, the sky is the limit. Larger donations enable the renting or potential purchase of larger equipment that can help support our efforts working with a local nonprofit to restore our year-round, trout bearing creek to a more natural and functional shape to better reflect what it would have been before the stream was channelized to turn it into a force to wash our hills away for the gold within and below them. Undoing the harm of previous generations and being a model for how humans can heal the land and live in Harmony with it was one of our goals at Timeless Ways and Flicker.  Your support makes it all possible.
